Regeneration was produced to enable photographic images to be shown on the Big Screen in Bradford City Centre. The images, of a gently decaying autumn garden, were deliberately shot with a blurred foreground and a sharp background.

This was because, with age, close focus becomes difficult and I wanted to suggest what that might be like. It is also an entreaty to look beyond the surface of decay, perhaps of age, to a new start and hope.

There is also an implied reference to City Regeneration.

Wet end of Autumn’s year.
A dim age,
A lonely blur,
A slack colour,
A soft stem.

Focus beyond
The screen across the eye.
Past looking,
The deep sleep,
The damping off,
The early frost,
The laying down.
